The process...

The assignment with this makeup was to imitate a famous makeup design from film. I chose Edward Scissorhands to try out some techniques I hadn't used before, specifically in the formation of the scars. I applied a very pale foundation and contoured in the sunken features with some slightly darker shades. I applied a pale pink to the eyes, lips, and nose to slightly highlight those features. The scars were formed on the face with sculpting putty which was applied, shaped, and painted to make them appear more pronounced than they actually were. The scars on the lip were formed with rigid collodion which shrinks as it dries, puckering the skin and adding the illusion of both deep healed cuts and dry lips. White powder was applied to the eyelids and lashes to minimize any natural features. The application process took 60 minutes and did not require prep work.
