The process...

The assignment with this makeup was to try to imagine ourselves as the opposite sex. This makeup was intended for the stage, not for film, which means the contouring is more dramatic to be better seen at a distance. I began with a skin shade slighting darker than my own since the men in my family have more of a ruddiness to their skin tones than the women do. I created the illusion of a wider nose by bringing the highlighter further out and up as well as rounding out the bottom of the nose. I also applied a darker shade around the nostrils to make them appear slightly larger. I countoured cheekbones below where mine naturally are, and created the illusion of a more pronounced chin. I also used darker tones to reshape the jawline and make it more square. Using pictures for reference, I recreated the illusion of five o' clock shadow with dark makeup on a stipple sponge. I also countoured in the illusion of an adams apple, though it is hard to see in this image. The application process took 45 minutes.
